Barriers to Remarriage in Older Women in Iran: A Qualitative Study

Objectives Today, one of the most important challenges in world and Iran is increase older population. With death a spouse old age, social participation elderly decreases; living alone associated with high risk an impact on all aspects health (physical, mental, social) elderly. This study aims to investigate barriers remarriage Iranian women. Methods & Materials The present was conducted 2019 qualitative approach using content analysis method. Using purposive sampling method, 10 women Babol city at least year being single, widowed or divorced, ability communicate effectively, willingness participate research were selected. data collection method in-depth semi-structured interviews until reaching saturation. Each interview transcribed analyzed based Kvale’s step-by-step guidance. Results In order determine trustworthiness data, criteria credibility, dependability, confirmability, transferability used. From interviews, 210 primary codes extracted. Through analysis, three main categories 12 sub identified. were: “characteristics, changes perspectives elderly”, “family mutual roles members”, “social relations its effects”. Conclusion Considering shame, modesty, taboo lack transparency regarding their desires, planning promoting culture improve quality life women, breaking by changing people’s views common prejudices, not violating women’s rights seem necessary.
